THE DEEP HOUSE

The Blumhouse business model has been cranking out some of the most interesting horror in recent years. A, relatively, small budget and creative freedom allow directors to pursue a film that can explore new ground. The Deep House does this, unfortunately, it fails to find its feet with so much going on in an underwater haunted house.

The gloomy depths of a lake in south France is our location for this adventurous horror. Two thrill seekers, one likable, the other detestable, are our guides. So far so good. The issues begin when we enter the haunted house at the bottom of aforementioned lake. There are plenty of terrifying things about scuba diving, as are there around a haunted house. Unfortunately, the film is too busy trying to combine these horrors to actually explore either one sufficiently.

If underwater horror floats your boat, you’ll probably enjoy this film, even if the supernatural elements detract from an interesting premise.

As always, I advise only to watch half of the trailer! That gives you all the information you need without feeling like you’ve had the film spoiled.
